Lista de universidades opcionales de exámenes SAT y ACT para 2022-2023

Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Dartmouth y Stanford han anunciado recientemente que seguirán con pruebas opcionales durante el período de ingreso 2023, con Cornell dando un paso más allá y manteniendo la opción de prueba hasta el año 2024, y ¡Harvard hasta 2026!

 

Esperamos que la mayoría de las demás instituciones altamente selectivas sigan su ejemplo (con la excepción del MIT, que recientemente anunció que sí requerirá pruebas)

 

Es de nuestra consideración que la modalidad opcional para este tipo de test llegó para quedarse, ¡Y estamos encantados!

En este punto, recomendamos que las promociones estudiantiles de 2023 (estudiantes actuales de 11.° grado/estudiantes de último año en ascenso) aún consideren tomar el ACT o el SAT, pero si envían o no sus puntajes debe depender de la disponibilidad de la prueba y el desempeño personal.

Nuestro consejos son los siguientes:

·       Los estudiantes no deben participar en esfuerzos hercúleos para realizar un examen (p. ej., viajar grandes distancias para encontrar un examen o sacrificar su salud mental/física).

·       Si el puntaje de su examen no se encuentra dentro del rango superior del 50 % de la escuela que desea o no refleja su desempeño académico en la escuela, tiene la opción de no enviarlo.

·       Debe ingresar al ciclo de admisión a la universidad con los ojos bien abiertos. Recuerda, si decides no enviar la calificación del examen, todo lo demás importará más en el proceso de admisión. El rigor y las calificaciones serán lo más importante, respaldado por una historia convincente.

 

Nos alienta la cantidad de escuelas que ya han anunciado una política de prueba opcional hasta 2023 y más allá. Combinado con las escuelas que han sido tradicionalmente (y permanentemente) opcionales para las pruebas, hay más instituciones con test opcionales que nunca, y con una enorme posibilidad de ampliar la lista.

Which universities in the United States will offer test-optional exams during 2021 and 2022?

The COVID-19 Pandemic and its social repercussions have altered the admissions processes of universities around the world, complicating the steps for new students.

To adapt to the difficulty of conducting face-to-face processes, and the limitations of online tools, most universities and educational institutes in the United States have decided to create new policies about entrance evaluations of an optional nature.

The group of institutions that have taken this action includes all Ivy League institutions, such as Harvard, Columbia, Princeton and Yale.

Generally speaking, optional tests have been determined for the next 3 or 4 years. Although institutions would prefer to return to traditional processes as soon as possible, it has implemented this option in the short term, trying to anticipate any inconvenience or new social crisis that may cause the COVID-19 Pandemic as well as its aftermath.

To the difficulty of students, the process of setting up optional tests has had ups and downs during the last 12 months. In other words, many universities in the world and in the United States, which initially adopted this measure, have changed their minds several times over the last year. This, of course, creates confusion among a student population eager to enter college.

It is not strange to find students from all corners of the United States, both national and foreign, who do not know for sure what is the current measure that their dreamed institutes have decided to take.

For them, I have decided to create this article and this list.

Below, all students from the United States, Latin America and the rest of the world will find an updated list to date of universities in the United States that are applying test optional measurements.

On this test, there are 3 types:

·   Optional Test.

·   Flexible Test.

·   Blind Test.

The difference between each type of test is as follows:

The Optional Tests are applied by universities that offer students the possibility of taking the admission test, but that do not include within their requirements to be accepted the results of this test.

Flexible Tests are applied by universities that impose GPA limitations on students who do not take the entrance exam. For example, to apply without the test requires an average GPA higher than the rest of the students.

Universities that apply the Blind Test do not consider the test results of any student in the admissions process.

 

Important: There are certain careers and specialized courses where universities still require all students who wish to enter, the results of the SAT or ACT tests, although in the rest of the academic offer of the same institution this is not a requirement.

¿Qué universidades de los Estados Unidos ofrecerán pruebas opcionales de ingresos durante 2021 y 2022?

La pandemia del COVID-19 y sus repercusiones sociales han alterado los procesos de ingresos de las universidades de todo el mundo, complicando el proceso para nuevos estudiantes.

Las instituciones educativas de Estados Unidos sean privadas, algunas públicas, sobre ciencias o artes, no han sido la excepción.

Para adaptarse a la dificultad de realizar procesos presenciales, y de las limitaciones de las herramientas online, la mayoría de las universidades e institutos educativos de los Estados Unidos se han decidido por crear políticas sobre pruebas de ingreso, de carácter opcional.

Dentro del grupo que ha tomado esta medida, están todas las instituciones del Ivy League, como Harvard, Columbia, Princeton y Yale.

En general, las pruebas opcionales se han establecido para los próximos 3 o 4 años. Aunque los institutos preferirían volver a los viejos procesos a la mayor brevedad posible, se ha decidido por este lapso anticipando cualquier inconveniente o nueva crisis social que pueda causar la Pandemia del COVID-19, y sus secuelas.

Para más dificultad de los estudiantes, el proceso de establecer las pruebas de ingreso opcionales ha tenido altos y bajos. Es decir, muchas universidades del mundo y de los Estados Unidos que inicialmente adoptaron esta medida, han cambiado de opinión varias veces durante el último año y medio. Esto, por supuesto, siembra confusión entre la población estudiantil deseosa de ingresar a la universidad.

No es extraño encontrar estudiantes de todos los rincones de Estados Unidos, tanto nacionales como extranjeros, que desconocen a ciencia cierta cuál es la medida actual que sus institutos de preferencia han decidido tomar.

Para ellos, he decidido crear este artículo con la lista.

A continuación, todos los estudiantes de Estados Unidos, América Latina y del resto del mundo, encontrarán un listado actualizado a la fecha, de universidades de los Estados Unidos que están aplicando la medida de pruebas opcionales de ingreso.

Sobre este tipo de prueba, existen 3 clases:

·   Test Opcional.

·   Test Flexible.

·   Test Ciego.

La diferencia entre cada tipo de prueba es la siguiente:

·   Las Pruebas Opcionales son aplicadas por universidades que ofrecen a los estudiantes la posibilidad de tomar la prueba de admisión, pero que no incluyen dentro de sus requisitos disponer de los resultados de esta prueba.

·   Las Pruebas Flexibles son aplicadas por universidades que imponen limitaciones a los ingresos de estudiantes que no tomen el examen de admisión. Por ejemplo, para aplicar sin la prueba se necesita un promedio de GPA superior al resto.

·   Las universidades que aplican el Test Ciego no consideran los resultados de las pruebas de ningún estudiante en el proceso de admisión.

 

Ojo: Existen determinadas carreras y cursos especializados donde las universidades todavía exigen a todos los estudiantes que deseen postular, los resultados de las pruebas SAT o ACT, aunque en el resto de la oferta académica del mismo instituto esto no sea un requisito.

Tips on facing the test that helps you get in!

Did you know that the SAT used to stand for Scholastic Aptitude Test? It did, but this acronym became so controversial that the test is now referred to as just the SAT. 

Each year, a plethora of students take this exam. Its objective is to quantify the students’ knowledge of reading, writing and math. Along with the college application form, the SAT carries significant weight for the overall application. As an excellent way to create a goal for the SAT, most colleges have created an expected score range, which the accepted applicants at their institution have achieved on the SAT.

In addition to this, while high school may seem demanding, it is essential to allocate time aside weekly in order to prepare effectively for the SAT. Here are some tips for this daunting yet completely approachable exam:

  • Practice.
    Many students do not realize the importance of practicing for the SAT. It is essential to take this exam regularly in the same conditions as the ones required on the day of the SAT. This means no snacks while taking the test, no cell phones, and no other distractions. Don’t get up during the middle of one section, as this is generally not allowed and it will disrupt your time.

  • Test yourself.
    One of the most common pitfalls of the SAT is not the lack of knowledge, but the lack of time. Don’t fall into the excuse of not having enough time. Each time you practice, pace yourself and time each section. Depending on the section, each question may require between 40 seconds to a little over a minute to complete.

  • Know yourself.
    Understanding what kind of student you are will allow you to be more successful for this test. Do you prefer studying on your own or working one on one with someone who will guide you with the questions? Can you concentrate in a class setting? Depending on your personality and concentration skills, some students prefer to study by themselves, others prefer to work with one tutor, while others prefer a class setting while learning how to tackle each question. If you know you will get distracted with your friends, don’t take a class with them. This time is valuable for you and only you.

  • Stay positive.
    During the essay prompt, many students may feel discouraged by the type of question or by the time allocated to answer this. Block out any negative thoughts including “this question is impossible,” “it is too vague,” or “I simply can’t do it.” Regardless of what the question is, train yourself. Tell yourself that you can do it, create a thesis statement right away, create a mini outline, and go for it! You have the key to your future so embrace it by being positive.

  • Relax.
    Relaxing before and after the exam will help you synergistically. It is not recommended to cram the night before the exam. Go to bed early, meditate, wake up on time, have a nutritious breakfast and make sure you take your ID and test form that day. After taking the SAT, pat yourself on the back and don’t stress about the grade. You will receive your score promptly. Focus on the rest of your application so you can succeed.

 

Therefore, believe in yourself and even though the SAT may seem like an impossible task at first, you will see that you can get through it and tackle it successfully!
