Which universities in the United States will offer test-optional exams during 2021 and 2022?

The COVID-19 Pandemic and its social repercussions have altered the admissions processes of universities around the world, complicating the steps for new students.

To adapt to the difficulty of conducting face-to-face processes, and the limitations of online tools, most universities and educational institutes in the United States have decided to create new policies about entrance evaluations of an optional nature.

The group of institutions that have taken this action includes all Ivy League institutions, such as Harvard, Columbia, Princeton and Yale.

Generally speaking, optional tests have been determined for the next 3 or 4 years. Although institutions would prefer to return to traditional processes as soon as possible, it has implemented this option in the short term, trying to anticipate any inconvenience or new social crisis that may cause the COVID-19 Pandemic as well as its aftermath.

To the difficulty of students, the process of setting up optional tests has had ups and downs during the last 12 months. In other words, many universities in the world and in the United States, which initially adopted this measure, have changed their minds several times over the last year. This, of course, creates confusion among a student population eager to enter college.

It is not strange to find students from all corners of the United States, both national and foreign, who do not know for sure what is the current measure that their dreamed institutes have decided to take.

For them, I have decided to create this article and this list.

Below, all students from the United States, Latin America and the rest of the world will find an updated list to date of universities in the United States that are applying test optional measurements.

On this test, there are 3 types:

·   Optional Test.

·   Flexible Test.

·   Blind Test.

The difference between each type of test is as follows:

The Optional Tests are applied by universities that offer students the possibility of taking the admission test, but that do not include within their requirements to be accepted the results of this test.

Flexible Tests are applied by universities that impose GPA limitations on students who do not take the entrance exam. For example, to apply without the test requires an average GPA higher than the rest of the students.

Universities that apply the Blind Test do not consider the test results of any student in the admissions process.

 

Important: There are certain careers and specialized courses where universities still require all students who wish to enter, the results of the SAT or ACT tests, although in the rest of the academic offer of the same institution this is not a requirement.
